The Family History Department houses a very unique
collection of genealogical and local history material. Unlike many
(most?) libraries we go out of our way to obtain locally produced research
material from around the country (think: east, south and northeast of OK). Many
library’s just purchase books from the “big boys”, the major genealogical
publishing houses. The good stuff however, is most often, available only
from local genealogical/historical societies and local genealogists. This
greatly enhances the research value of our collection as much of what we have
is owned only by a handful of libraries nationwide. Needless to say, we may be
the only OK library with this material. The collection contains about
23,000 books and countless periodicals. We also have over 6,000 rolls of
microfilm, including all surviving copies of Comanche County newspapers up to
1920.
